ATTENTION: PArents of children aged 6-9 years old

How busy parents are using this 1 trick to improve the math grades of their kids in less than 15 minutes a day

(EVEN IF THEY STRUGGLE WITH MATH THEMSELVES)

this is For parents whose children would rather be playing videogames...

THIS is for you if....

  • You want to boost your child's confidence in Math
  • You want Math resources that your child will be excited to do
  • You want to give your child the best chance in life
  • You only have 15 minutes a day to help your child with their Math

HOW FOCUSING ON YOUR CHILD's interests is the key to learning at home

Is your child glued to their device all the time?

Does it feel like you are constantly in a battle to get them to do school work at home?

It's not your fault. Games are designed to be fun and exciting and that's part of what draws children in.

But there are 3 reasons why children want to spend all their time playing....
  • Control: They want to feel in control of how they spend their time. If they go to school 5 days a week they are constantly told what lesson is next, what they should be doing and how they should behave. Spending extended time playing games is their way of taking back some control.
  • Completion: Games are great at supporting players in making progress. If your child is struggling at school or in other areas (like in sports clubs) they can gain a sense of completion or progress by playing videogames.
  • Connected: Videogames provide the ability to access lots of different experiences whether it is through building games like Minecraft, driving games, or mixed experience games like Roblox. Children feel connected to this experience and their friends who play the same games.
If you want to start reducing screen time and have your child focusing on their learning the best way is to link learning to their interests

Given the choice, as people, we are much more likely to choose an activity related to something that interests us than something we see as boring or annoying.

If you like clothes shopping would you rather go to the mall and see the latest trends or sit and write another presentation for work?

If you like baking would you rather spend the weekend baking the new recipes you found online in the warmth of your cosy home or going for a walk outdoors in the rain to get drenched and chilled to the bone?

The same is true of your child - supporting their interests enables you to connect with them but it also acts as a bridge to other activities - like learning or socializing.

CHILDREN LOVE THESE MATH PRACTICE SHEETS

"I had them printed off and they were left on the side in the kitchen…. She immediately recognised the Minecraft theme and that peaked her interest straight away. I explained what they were and she was a bit hesitant but still was eager to look through and try the questions. With her normal maths homework it’s a real struggle so this was a massive positive. So I would definitely say she engaged more with the learning because the context was related to Minecraft.

She has really improved with her maths over the last few months but still found some of the questions tough…. She enjoyed the sequence questions and the colouring in on the multiplication square. I feel that the game context helped her see the problems clearer and in turn she was more engaged and willing to sit and practice/work out the solutions.

I would say overall they have helped her ability in her weaker areas. Her areas of weakness are times tables/multiplication. I think relating maths to something she’s interested in was a great turning point and helped her see numbers as a daily life tool rather than an annoying subject at school. It boosted her confidence and I hope that’s something she can take forward into the future."
“I left the worksheets on thedining table and I didn'tmention anything but theyimmediately recognized theMinecraft theme. Duringthe weekend, I offered to havesome math time and theyshowed me the worksheets andtold me to start with these.”
“My son has done some of the FIFA worksheets when we've had time and he loved them."

How I FELL IN LOVE WITH MATH EVEN AFTER FAiLING MATH AT UNIVERSITY

I failed my University degree because I couldn't do the Math.

There was a module on 2D/3D graphics in the course I was taking about Computer Graphics. Failing that module meant I couldn't continue the course and had to change to something else and so I chose Computer Business.
Since then I've been on a journey in the videogame industry from managing the world's best gaming teams, to operating events around the world and consulting for governments and global brands. I was even invited to No.10 Downing Street to meet the Prime Minister of the UK because I was consulting about child safety online back in 2008/9.

But I reached a point where I wasn't enjoying it anymore.

My partner is a school teacher and at home we were always talking about her class (she teaches 8-9 year olds), their interests and the lessons she had done during the day. We also talked about the planning she did for lessons and there was a time when she desperately needed to create a lesson plan for the next day. The math topic was perimeter.

I knew her class were all interested in the videogame "Among Us" so I suggested creating a lesson plan about the game. Among Us is a game where you and other players complete tasks in different rooms on a spaceship and other locations. 30 minutes later we had a lesson plan asking the students to design new rooms in the spaceship and calculate the perimeter of the rooms.

The next day I got a WhatsApp message from my partner about the math lesson and it simply said – “they love this Among Us stuff”. It even had one of those emojis with the monkey and the hands over the eyes.

I then helped her create plans for other math lessons based on games like Minecraft, and created practice sheets and tested them with a handful of parents. Comments from the parents all focused on how their children were interested in the practice sheets because they recognized the link to videogames.

That's when I knew I could use my experience in the videogame industry to create learning resources and help parents like you.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What if I'm not very good at Math?
Don't worry, it's not your fault. The school system has been broken for a long time. The good news is - you don't need to sit and work everything out yourself. To help you support your child we've included all the answers to every question on the practice sheets.

How can this help me if I have no time?
We understand that things can get busy. You may be working all day and then come home straight into dinner preparation, washing, bath time, bed time stories or any other activities. Or you may be constantly taking your child to after school clubs and sports practices and have no time. These practice sheets can be broken down into small chunks. There are small topics in each big topic and each small topic may only have a few practice sheets. This is how other parents are helping their children in as little as 15 minutes per day.

Doesn't this mean my child will need to spend more time playing videogames?
No. The practice sheets are meant to be a support for the games your child already plays. They don't need to spend more time playing games to do the practice sheets and some of our parents have introduced the practice sheets as a way for their children to earn the reward of playing videogames. The put in place a structure where the child must spend some time doing the practice sheets before they are allowed to play on their games.

My child is really struggling with a specific Math topic - can you create customized resources for them?
Absolutely! We have a different service where we work with you to create a learning plan for your child and once we understand your child, the math topic they need to focus on and their favorite game our team begins the process of creating customized resources. We do this over a 16 week period with regular check-ins with you as the parent to see how your child is progressing and which resources they liked and which they didn't so we can continue to customize during the program.

How do you create these worksheets?
I've created a method called the P.A.R.R.O.T Framework that means I can look at a game, identify the key features and then use those features as the context for Math questions. I then look at the types of Math taught in the classroom and the topics that should be covered for the age group and combine the two - the math topics and the game features.

Are there practice sheets available for other games?
Yes! Because we have the P.A.R.R.O.T Framework it doesn't take us long to create practice sheets for other games. Tell us the game your child plays and we can create some practice sheets for that game.

Do you create practice sheets for other age groups?
At the moment we have practice sheets based on the math topics taught at the 6-9 age group but we will expand that to the 9-11 age group.
I'm ready to boost my child's math grades using the power of videogames!
